(If the Mueller report came with a soundtrack, this would be it)
Here’s the break down.
Did Russia interfere with the election to help Trump win?
Yes, they did without a doubt.
In addition to hacking the Clinton campaign (in fact, just 5 hours after Trump asked for her emails), Russia used a troll operation called “Internet Research Agency” to help Trump win. The report says IRA was able to reach up to 126 Million(!) Americans with their fake news operation. That’s like more than half of US voting population. No big deal.
Did Trump coordinate with Russia?
He more than likely did as the report offered an extensive list of things Team Trump did to get help from Russia. However, Mueller couldn’t legally prove Trump conspired with Russia because Trump’s people repeatedly lied to protect Trump
The report says the investigation was “materially impaired” because “the Trump Campaign lied to the Office, and to Congress, about their interactions with Russian-affiliated individuals and related matters.”
Question is, why the fuck did they lie if they’re innocent?
What about obstruction of justice, did he try to stop the investigation?
He did – at least 11 times – it’s just that his cronies refused to carry out his orders. Mueller says Trump’s obstruction attempts were “mostly unsuccessful” because his underlings didn’t listen to his orders.
The “I’m Fucked” and “Crazy shit” moments
According to the report, Trump said “I’m fucked.” when he learned Robert Mueller was going to investigate him. Trump later tried to fire Mueller but failed because his lawyer Don McGahn, who he gave the order to, threatened to quit for making him “do crazy shit”.
Question time again, why did Trump say he’s fucked and why did he try to fire Robert Mueller? Because…
So is Trump going to be charged?
Not when he’s still president.
The special counsel’s office made it clear they would’ve cleared Trump if they had “confidence that he did not commit obstruction of justice” but “were unable to reach that judgment” based on the facts.
Still, Mueller couldn’t indict Trump because the Department of Justice told him he doesn’t have the authority to prosecute a sitting president.
Time to “Impeach the motherfucker” then, huh?
Looks like that’s the direction Mueller wants the investigation to go.
Mueller says “Congress has authority to prohibit a President’s corrupt use of his authority” and that “no person is above the law” – basically sending “an invitation for Congress to impeach the president”.
Will Democrats go ahead with it, tho?
They probably should, considering the amount of evidence Mueller just tossed to them, but it doesn’t look like they have a consensus yet.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, arguably the most visible Dem House rep, said she will support her colleague Rashida Tlaib’s impeachment resolution. However, House Majority leader Steny Hoyer said impeachment is “not worthwhile”.
